Term 2, Week 10 - Ask an Expert

French Lemonade by Hannah and Bridget.

(If you are reading this post by email, click here to be taken to the Kaupeka Blog to view the photo slideshow).

In Week 10 of Term 2, Hannah and I ran a French Lemonade Ask an Expert Session. We made lemonade and taught some of the French language. First we demonstrated how we were going to make the lemonade. Then we moved onto the French, for the French language part I made a Kahoot on basic facts and words in French. The people who won the Kahoot got to make their lemonade first. We had a lot of fun running the French lemonade class and hope to do something similar to it soon.

Term 2 - Cultural Food Fair

What a success the Kaupeka Cultural Food Fair was!

Well done to the Year 7/8's for their dedication and time management skills to cook/serve over half of our school students their lunch on Friday afternoon!!!

So much authentic learning occurred during this PBL - from designing menus to cooking and customer service. Our students also learned how to price ingredients and upsell the food items for a profit at a reasonable rate (thank you to Mrs Cumming's sister for coming in and teaching us how to do this!)

Check out the slideshows below of the Kaupeka Team preparing and serving their food, as well as the creativity they put into designing their stalls and cultural games.

Term 2, Week 9 & 10 Water Safety

We have seen significant progress in our student's ability to swim. They have also been gaining great knowledge around water safety.

(If you are reading this post by email, click here to be taken to the Kaupeka Blog to view the photo slideshow).

Thursday Week 9 & 10 - Water Safety.
They have been learning about the importance of using life jackets and understanding what to do in emergency water rescue situations.

Friday Week 10 - Pyjama Day
The purpose of this was for students to gain the awareness of what it is like to be in the water wearing clothing that weighs them down and what they should do in this scenario.

Term 2, Week 10 - Friday Notices

Friday 7th July

What an exciting last day of Term we all have to look forward to!

Mid Winter Breakfast 7.30am

Everyone is welcome for a mid winter breakfast of pancakes and sausages at school. Please also bring along a cup for Milo! The coffee van will be there too.

Winter Accessory Mufti Day

Please dress up in warm mufti with winter accessories, eg hat, scarf, socks etc. There will be spot prizes for the most interesting accessories!

Pyjama Water Safety Lesson (AM)

All students are encouraged to wear an old pair of pyjama for their final swimming lesson on Friday. This is a water safety lesson. The purpose is for students to gain the awareness of what it is like to be in the water wearing clothing that weighs them down and what they should do in this scenario. Students will still need to wear their togs underneath their pyjamas. If pyjamas are not an option for your child, please provide them with clothing that is similar.

The Kaupeka team will need to wear their pyjamas to school as they are first up for swimming lessons - please bring mufti to change into afterwards!

Kaupeka's Cultural Food Fair 12.40pm

The Kaupeka team have been working hard all term on their Culture PBL with the driving question of; what is our identity as a school?

Our students have investigated their own cultures to plan and design our very first Cultural Food Fair at SFOA. Each group will be preparing food to be purchased by students and games to be played during lunch time on Friday. (The food stalls will represent the chosen cultures).

Check out the menu below...

Please note that there are a limited quantity of each and that each item will be sold on first come first served basis.
